Software Box Design Charts

3D Box Shot Charts: Box Design programs in one place.

As a graphic designer, I spend a fair amount of time designing box shot packaging for lots of different types of products. With so many different box shot programs available it can sometimes be very time consuming to try them all and make an informed decision on the best one to buy.

I though it would be nice to try out a Darwinian experiment to find the best box shot program. This site is updated every week with the products ranked in the order of the affiliate sales they generate. It’s the Box Shot Charts!

New entries always rank above the top ten for one week, allowing the most popular products to bubble to the top. New products are given a fighting chance to prove themselves. Each entry has its own page on the site with screen shots and example images created with the program. We try out the programs so you don’t have to. We look at every feature of the program in depth and produce real world examples with box shots created by our design team using the product.

Box Shot Charts :: The Chart!

This week there was a clear leader: Cover Commander. Insofta Developments have been working hard to improve the program and have just released version 2.9. Please checkout the updated review!

#1 >>Cover Commander

Cover Commander has a very well designed interface that clearly shows a lot of thought has gone into it. The interface is initially icon driven with the program showing a welcome menu when you start. The icons are well designed and you can suppress this dialog if you don’t find it helpful or useful. I was very impressed with the Cover Commander interface. It was a little bit like getting a gentle lesson in quality GUI design. The interface is split between a real time view port and a tabbed control system. Any changes you make to the tab controls are immediately reflected in the view port display...

#2 >>Box Shot 3D

I’m afraid I can’t tell you anything about the company or individual that produces Box Shot 3D, as their website gives absolutely nothing away. The only way you can contact the team, company or individual behind the program is via a contact form on their website....

#3 >>3D Product Box

I found the 3D Product Box installation process rather alarming. The installer isn’t signed and the program requires both the .NET framework and the latest version of Direct X. Bizarrely, the dialog box that appears if you don’t have the .NET framework installed is in Dutch...

#4 >>eCover Engineer

eCover Engineer is a good name for a product that provides a competent and workman like approach to box design. The demo downloads fast but isn’t signed and looks as though it uses Inno setup without any branding or adornment to the installer. eCover Engineer installs quickly and ships with a small range of demo eCovers and presets...

#5 >>3D Box Maker Pro V2

The 3d Box Maker Pro V2 interface isn’t likely to win any beauty contests. However, it does feature nicely implemented mouse control system that allows you to rotate and Pan / Zoom your box shot with consummate ease. If you’re in any doubt about how to control the view port with the mouse, the program provides a handy link to the help file on the menu bar...

#6 >>Box Shot Maker

Box Shot Maker has fundamentally unattractive interface that simply doesn’t work in some places. There’s no mouse control over the view port by default, although you can activate some limited pan and zoom mouse controls, but overall the control system is clunky and awkward. 533soft obviously don’t think that interface design is an important factor.

Do you want to enter the Box Shot Charts?

3D Box Shot Charts currently draws in around 6,000 + visitors a month. The site ranks highly on Google for a broad range of box related search terms. If you’d like you expose your product to our audience all you need to do is contact us.

All we require is that you have an affiliate program which will allow us to accurately track sales on a weekly basis. We need at least a 25% affiliate commission to make it worth our while.

We’ll take care of the rest and produce a mini review and a product page on our site. You’ll spend one week on as a “New Entry” and will then place in ranking order based on sales the following week.

Before we started running the box shot charts, we use to just sell 3D Box Shot from this site. Please feel free to purchase! 3D Box Shot is still the only box shot program with keyframe video export capabilities. However, since we generate revenue from the affiliate sales of our competitor’s products, we don’t feel any pressure to artificially keep 3D Box Shot in the top ten.

If you don’t think your box shot product can compete, then you should really question why you have brought your product to market. If you think it can, then you can finally find out how you compare to your competitors on a level playing field! If your product has new and innovative features then you can quickly make it shine to a large and highly targeted audience. It doesn’t matter if your site doesn’t rank well in the search engines. You don’t have to spend a fortune on adwords in order to find an audience.
